Overview

Open to: Billings Clinic Cardiologists, Electrophysiologists, Cardiothoracic and Vascular surgeons, APPs, Radiologists, and Cath and ECHO techs.

This activity provides an opportunity for multidisciplinary discussion and review of the care of surgical, interventional, and medical management of patients with complex cardiovascular disease including the latest diagnostic and therapeutic options. These complex patients require coordination of a multifaceted medical team including, but not limited to, primary care providers, interventional cardiology, interventional radiology, medical cardiology, electrophysiologists, cardiovascular surgery, nursing and pharmacy, and this course serves as a place to review complex cardiovascular cases with the goal of improving patient outcomes and coming to a consensus on the best treatment plans. Review of echocardiographic images will be routinely incorporated into case discussions. Periodic review of the literature will be utilized to define the optimal treatment decision for the cases and support evidence-based practice. Each session will incorporate elements of case discussion, literature review, and updated, contemporary practices for both catheterization and vascular patients. On a quarterly basis, a selection of cases will undergo physician peer review involving mortality, complications, and opportunities for education.


Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Identify patients at risk for cardiovascular diseases.
  2. Discuss appropriate imaging modalities for the diagnosis and monitoring of these diseases and of congenital cardiac disorders.
  3. Utilize echocardiographic imaging, both 2D and transesophageal, to aid in diagnosis and management.
  4. Utilize clinical practice guidelines to manage and optimize both medical and surgical management of cardiovascular disorders.
  5. Better communicate and coordinate as a multidisciplinary to care for patients with complex cardiovascular disease and to support patients by clearly identifying needed behavioral changes.
