This one-day conference is intended for healthcare providers who assess and treat concussions such as primary care providers, sports medicine physicians, emergency medicine clinicians, nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, athletic trainers, and other interested healthcare professionals. Teaching is comprised of didactic lectures, case studies, and interactive Q&A sessions. Content includes prevention of concussion as well as identification, assessment, treatment, and referrals. Participants will learn about transitioning concussed patients back to school and/or back to work. Safe return to play transition will also be covered.


Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Introduce the 'Save the Brain' initiative, including its goals and relevance to concussion prevention.
  2. Discuss pediatric concussion cases highlighting assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and return to play management.
  3. Describe the assessment, diagnosis, treatment and return to work process for concussion care of an adult patient.
  4. Identify risk factors and unique challenges for concussion in the elderly.
  5. Explain goals and guidelines for long-term concussion management and chronic headaches.
  6. Identify and describe effective strategies for preventing concussions across all age groups.
  7. Apply best practice concussion management protocols to common patient scenarios.
